Master Lu’s Health Center on 3220 South State Street wants to tell people how sticking needles in their skin can help them put down that cigarette. Tye and his father, Master Lu, are encouraging addicts to participate with them in the Great American Smoke-out this November 20th.

The present tobacco control efforts are insufficient which reflects in the fact that even if all the tobacco control initiatives were successful, still 500 million people will die due to tobacco use by 2050. We must find a solution to tobacco problem within our lifetime and not wait for the death of one billion people likely to die from tobacco this century.

It appears that Feburary 1, 2007 is going to be a bright day for health activists in India and a dark day for the crafty tobacco industry. According to the latest Government of India notification announcing the “Cigarettes and other tobacco products (Packaging and labeling) rules 2006,� tobacco companies wouldn’t be able to dupe customers by labeling cigarettes as “Light� “Mild,� “Low tar,� “Slim� or “Safe.� Not only this, all the tobacco packs whether smoking or non-smoking form of tobacco, have to compulsorily display specified picture displaying the harms of tobacco.

Burning Brain Society has questioned the government if it had any scientific evidence that Cola consumption has resulted in even one death over the last 50 years. Comparing it with tobacco the NGO raised the point that it was well known that tobacco kills nearly one million people in India every year and yet there was no talk in the parliament on banning tobacco.
