KHUSHII BRINGS SMILES TO THE FACES OF DEPRIVED CHILDREN


: Khushii, an NGO for the underprivileged and destitute community in rural and urban areas has conceptualized ‘India on Canvas – Junior’. India on Canvas- Junior showcases artworks created by artists in collaboration with children. This fundraiser is in sync with Khushii’s successful annual fundraiser India on Canvas is an unique endeavor to bring forth some of the most eminent personalities together with the greatest names in the art fraternity to jointly produce canvases that are auctioned for charity.

A total of one hundred forty one canvases have been painted for this noble cause. These paintings are made by children of eminent personalities like Renee Sen - daughter of Sushmita Sen, Rasha Thadani - daughter of Raveena Tandon, Amiya Dev - daughter of the cricket legend, Kapil Dev and several others. The canvases are made in collaboration with renowned and upcoming artists like Sanjay Bhattacharya, Kanchan Chandra, Raheem Mirza, Binoy Vargis and many more. These collaborative works of art were exhibited at the French Embassy on the 19th October 2008, after which the children took their created art-pieces home with them.

10 paintings were put on auction. Five of them were created by children of different NGO’s. Five children from Khushii’s educational project ‘Shikshaantra’ and five children each, from the Salam Balak Trust, Pratham, Bal Bihar and SOS Village, painted with eminent artists.
The other 5 painting are works of animals and artists. Animals from Wildlife SOS gave their footprints on canvases, which was then created into creative paintings by eminent artists. These paintings will also be put on auction. The reserved price for each of the 10 canvases is Rs 10,000/- All the money raised from these projects will go to the respective NGO’s for the betterment of the lives of the children and for securing freedom for animals.

The money raised from the fundraiser will go to Khushii’s education project Shhikshaantra. The main objective of Shikshaantra is to teach those who have never attended school, or those who have dropped out of school due to varied reasons. Attempts are made to integrate the drop outs into mainstream schooling and to regenerate the lost interest of these children in studies. Khushii also aims to help achieve economic development by imparting functional literacy to adults in rural areas.

The occasion was graced by many prominent personalities like French Ambassador, His Excellency, Mr. Jerome Bonnafont, Mr. Aman Nath, Kapil Dev, Vandana Luthra, the along with them Page 3 people like Shabnam Singhal, Anjali Chawla, Kalyani Chawla, Dia Barman. This event brought artists, parents, children, guests, sponsors, media and celebrities in one ambit.
