Since 1948, the converted Royal Air Force base near Chichester in Sussex has seen a veritable who’s who of racers pushing pedals to the metal, from the marathon ‘Goodwood Nine Hours’ races that ran during the 1950s right the way through to the contemporary ‘Goodwood Festival of Speed’, a yearly hill climb between classic racing cars that has become an annual tradition since 1993. Jim Clark and Jack Sears competed here, and it is the place where Donald Campbell first demonstrated the Bluebird CN7 that would later earn him the land speed record.
