Posted to MediaSyndicate.com (Dec 18, 2008 - 10:01 AM) : SNELLVILLE, GA - December 18, 2008.—New Jerusalem Baptist Church, the Snellville Georgia faith-based organization, that kicked-off of their weekly “Free Meal Mondays” earlier this week for local residences in need, have collected clothing and other essentials to give away to families who may be in need of more than just a hot meal.



New Jerusalem Baptist Church opened their doors on Monday, December 15, 2008 at 6:30pm to anyone in the community in need of a free meal and inspiration. The menu included Red Beans and Rice, Fried Turkey, Cornbread Stuffing and a variety of deserts. WSB-TV Channel 2 News Reporter Richard Elliot was on hand to help spread the word.

“The community has stepped-up and made a commitment with us to help.” stated Elijah Collins, Jr., founder and Pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, “Since Mr. Elliot and Channel 2 News were so kind enough to show their support; people from all walks of life have dropped-off supplies, donated food, clothing and their time in support of this much needed effort”

What started out as an effort to assist the growing homeless population in Gwinnett County, has branched off to include families that currently have a home. However, after paying their mortgage and other bills many families barely have enough money to buy groceries and other needed items. New Jerusalem Baptist Church and its members have been passing out flyers in the community and at their places of employment striving to be a resource and inspiring families to hang on. They are also offering transportation to the Monday night event for families that need a ride and live within a 15 miles radius.
