Posted to MediaSyndicate.com (Dec 19, 2008 - 03:23 PM) : Los Angeles Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Lesavoy is a board-certified Plastic Surgeon, specializing in Cosmetic Surgery, Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery procedures including face, breast, eyelids, tummy, liposuction.

Ubon Ratchatani, Thailand (February, 2008) – It isn’t often that a renowned Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon can be found performing reconstructive surgery in places as remote as Ubon Ratchatani, Thailand. But then again, Dr. Malcolm Lesavoy has a long and storied history as a pioneer in his field of reconstructive and Plastic Surgery.

On this day, Dr. Lesavoy, a renowned Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon, has come as a visiting professor with Yale and Johns Hopkins Universities’ “Changing Children’s Lives” program to perform dozens of free and much-needed reconstructive surgeries on children with severe birth defects or maiming injuries. Lesavoy, who has dedicated much of his life to teaching young surgeons their craft, is here as both teacher and surgeon. Over the course of one week, he personally performed over 60 surgeries on children who had lined up for the unique opportunity to have one of the world’s most recognized Plastic Surgeons perform surgery on them. Over 120 reconstructive and Plastic Surgeries in all were performed this week.

Dr. Lesavoy is widely recognized as having pioneered the craniofacial surgery department at Harbor–UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles 28 years ago and served as the Chief of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Division there for 25 years.

On this trip, Lesavoy focused his attention on children with cleft palate and cleft-lip defects as well as on hand surgeries for children with severe burn scars. This trip provided his students – and Plastic Surgery residents from Yale Medical School and Johns Hopkins - to up their game in these types of operations. “Each resident was able to perform four or five of these specialized surgeries per day here in Thailand,” said Lesavoy. “In the real world, those sorts of opportunities would come up for them maybe 3 to 4 times in an entire year, so a mission like this represents an incredible opportunity for learning and training.”

Dr. Lesavoy also worked with local Plastic Surgeons in Ubon Ratchatani, teaching doctors the techniques he utilized to repair the facial defects of the children. This is a program that not only helps the children, but also represents a ‘pay it forward’ type of enterprise. The local doctors who benefit from the expertise of reconstructive and Plastic Surgeons like Dr. Lesavoy will be able to carry this surgery forward on into their own practices within Thailand. Everyone wins.

When asked if this type of pro bono work was rewarding to him, Lesavoy reflected on his successful and high profile private practice as a Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon to the stars and others. “My patients throughout Los Angeles – in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and San Fernando Valley – they pay me well so that I can afford to come to Third Word countries and donate a week of gratis services,” said Lesavoy. “I really enjoy this rewarding work and it allows me to operate on the indigent children of California in the same manner without any cost to them.”

Malcolm Lesavoy’s private Los Angeles Plastic Surgery practice encompasses everything from Breast Enlargement to Liposuction, Facelifts to Nose Jobs.
