Posted to MediaSyndicate.com (Dec 02, 2009 - 04:01 PM) : Boston residents who grind their teeth may need a custom fitted night guard to prevent harmful side effects. Brookline Dental Center is now offering special pricing for those who could benefit from wearing a custom fitted night guard.
Brookline Dental Center is educating Boston residents about the harmful effects of teeth grinding. The American Dental Association estimates that 10-15% of Americans grind their teeth.
Bruxism is the medical term for grinding, gnashing or clenching teeth. Many individuals are unaware that they grind their teeth, until they begin to experience painful side effects. Symptoms of bruxism can include facial pain, earaches, migraines, jaw disorders, headaches and damaged teeth.
Brookline Dental Center finds that a recent rise in patient complaints associated with bruxism is most likely due in part to the current economical downturn. Stress is one of the leading causes of teeth grinding. According to Dr. Rasool of Brookline Dental Center, “Unaware patients can be grinding their teeth for 40 minutes to a full hour at night. This can leave them with serious pain and discomfort in the morning the next day.”
A night guard is the most common treatment for this disorder. The guard not only prevents further wear of the enamel but also in some cases may be instrumental in reversing the disorder by training the patient to stop grinding. The guard is custom fitted for the patient’s unique bite. Dr. Rasool also notes that some insurance plans to allow for custom fitted night guards, so consumers are advised to check with their insurance.
Boston residents considering a night guard should call Brookline Dental Center at 617-734-2222 immediately. For the month of December, patients can save as much as 40% off a custom fitted guard.
